Yesterday , why they win the cup. Today, why they don't make the playoffs.

See, this just proves you didn't read the last post.

It was clearly stated that the negative side of things was coming.

Perhaps in the future you bring yourself up to speed prior to popping off, Vantel.

So here is some ammo for ol 39er, if Deboer cannot gel with the team then surely that goes back to the guy that hired him? Surely (stop calling me Shirley), that would have been discussed before the hiring so management agrees with the system that the coach wants to implement. If that's the case & the system fails because it's bad, then the GM has lost all connection with his team & should go!

DW days are numbered if this team doesnt make a playoff run. But then again I thought the same thing last year and he got a vote of confidence from Mr SAP...

Once you get to the playoffs, anything can happen. Problem with the West is who's out so that you're in? Vancouver and ? LA back in or not? Should be an interesting year.

I think both Van and LA are on par with the Sharks as far as possibly getting in.

We will know by Thanksgiving whether or not the Sharks are going to make it. This will be enough time to see how the coaching staff does and if the player choices DW has made will pan out.

If we are in a playoff spot at Thanksgiving we will make it, if not, we won't. Simple as that.

Now that you wrote about the two of the extreme cases (neither of which is likely to happen, IMO), how about a more realistic blog, Tim?

Patience, patience. Can't waste posts by grouping together in Aug/Sept.

That's what they told Toronto last year your statement just doesn't make any sense.

Hmmmm...

"Since the 2005-06 season, NHL teams in postseason position at Thanksgiving have gone on to make the Stanley Cup playoffs 77.3 percent of the time."

Seems like based on the numbers, and Toronto being a 7th seed at Thanksgiving last year by a mere 3 points with other teams having games in hand, makes you the one who "doesn't make any sense".

So you know when the other personality is on its way.

A lot of these If's feel like they are more likely than the previous list of If's needed to win. If Martin Jones is not the real deal is my biggest worry. Average goal tending seems to agitate me more than anything else.

If Thorton regresses we are in deep trouble, for all the crap he has taken in the past he has done a ton for this team numbers wise.

Are defensive minded teams and possession minded teams really be same thing? That's like saying the best way to play defence is by not having to play defence. It sounds true but realistically you are going to have to play defence at some point.

1/4th of a season is not enough to determine if a new system is working out and if a team will make the playoffs.. What if we're in the 7th playoff spot by a mere 3 points? Do we know for sure if we'll make the playoffs? It's an interesting stat but not at all a good indicator of a teams success by the end of the season.. The Kings were out of the playoffs by thanksgiving the year they won their first cup..

Every off-season the last few years I have predicted that SJ goes deep and while I am continuously wrong, I once again like their chances. The only question mark for me is can Jones/Stalock replace an average Neimi?

I feel like last year with all the drama, it was a bit of a " torts" like year for you guys as we call nucks fans call it.

This team has too many quality forwards to be missing the playoffs again and I really like the addition of Ward and Martin.

I still think Burns played his best hockey as a fwd but can understand that the team might need him more as a defender.

Does Goldobin have much chance in cracking the roster this year? wasn't he a late cut last season?

I sure hope you're right I don't expect the Sharks to make a deep playoff run but I like our chances to at least make the playoffs.

Offensively I'd say goldobin is ready for the nhl but his defensive game still needs a lot of work so I don't expect him to make the team out of training camp. I'd like to see him get at least half a season in the Ahl under his belt before making the Sharks roster. I expect him to finish the season on the team.

Burns played his best hockey at D and has shown that he needs to stay there. Its fun watching him crush the crease but he wasnt that effective.

Goldobin didnt have the size last year, his handler recommended he stay back. This year he said he was ready to join the big boy club. It all comes down to camp, he still has to earn his place and push someone out.

As far as Torts situations, yes it was a dog and pony show. Good riddance to Mclellan he lost the room. I like Edmontons enthusiasm about him but they will tire of his line juggling and poor game management. He constantly got out strategized during games by the opposing coach.

As an outsider I would argue that you tank this season.

Try to win the lottery.

(Sorry if this was too mean. I felt it was borderline. We in Boston will be in the same category as you guys. )

Honestly I have thought of little else hockey related since that trade was made. I can totally see Jones and Martin not working out and the new coach staff being a total disaster.

Sorry your dreams of us giving up a top 10 pick are not happening. We were firmly in second until a bad run at the end of the season. 10 years in a row playoff bound with different goalies, Jonesy will take us back. Besides our D is better than last year. We have plenty of young blood talent coming through the roster.

You can dream though, besides Edmonton will steal another 1st overall from more deserving teams like this past draft...
